Several years ago I was blogging my heart out, mostly about various topics that might fall under the heading of “human rights abuses”. I also was sortakinda active in the local prolife efforts of my Catholic parish. Then some things happened, one of them being an unexpected divorce from my wife of twenty years. That and wrapping my mind around my children’s dealing with things has kept me off this sort of thing since.
Now I’m here, wherever “here” may be.
One thing I took away from my time in the prolife movement is a perception that nobody cares about the way human lives are commodified if a particular item doesn’t fall under the heading of whatever topic is allowed.
Here’s an example; Talk to a Catholic prolife proponent about abortion and you’ve got their attention. Shift the discussion over to human surrogacy, prostitution, pornography, human egg marketing, persecution of the Falun Gong, etc. and you’ve lost them.
They. Couldn’t. Care. Less. PERIOD!!
That isn’t something peculiar to Catholics either. It’s across the board. Evidently caring about your fellow man is only worthwhile if it’s the present topic of interest of whatever group you belong to. Outside of that, commodification of human beings is a tough topic to get anyone interested in.
So why am I doing this newsletter/blog/whateverinhell it is?
For now, call it scratching an itch. Honestly, I have no idea where I’ll go from here.
